Almost There
The MSA Avon Tyres British Hillclimb Championship and TCC Leaders Hillclimb Championship made their annual visit to Barbon Manor Hillclimb in Westmorland. Other registered competitors chose not to make the journey to Barbon & went instead to Harewood for the May Open Meeting and a full day of running before Sunday's MSA Championships round at the Yorkshire hill.
OMS drivers Trevor Willis & Lee Griffiths made the journey to Barbon whilst 11 other OMS drivers went to Harewood, including Lynn & Steve Owen. Steve is leading the Harewood FTD Championship and Saturday was a counting round, so points were up for grabs.
At Barbon Trevor qualified well for both Top 12 Run Offs, finishing in 2nd position behind Scott Moran in each. Eighteen points will move Trevor up the points table following the disappointment of a no score in the first round of the championship at Prescott.
At Harewood Les Procter took the Sports Libre up to 2000cc class from the quick Scottish driver John Mackenzie. There were no less than 18 cars in the ever strong Harewood 1100cc single seater class, 6 of which were driving an OMS. Honours went to Graham Smith in his 2000M with Fergus Duncan (2000M) and Richard Vaughan (OMS P/R) in 2nd and 3rd respectively.
The 1600cc single seater class only fielded 3 cars. The class winner was Steve Owen with a personal best time at the venue in the OMS 25 of 52.83 seconds, Lynn Owen finished 2nd and Paul Gibson in his 2000M 3rd.
John Chacksfield finished 3rd in the 2 litre single seater class in his CF04, behind regular OMS driver Alex Summers who was running his supercharged DJ for the first time this season following winter engine work.
FTD went to Oliver Tomlin in the 4 litre Pilbeam on a 52.31 with 2nd FTD going to Steve Owen on 52.83 seconds.
