Back on the Road
As the 2012 MSA Avon Tyres and TCC Leaders Hillclimb Championship circus travelled over the Pennines on Saturday evening for the championship rounds at Harewood in Yorkshire on Sunday 13 May. Cool temperatures and windy conditions greeted the drivers on Sunday morning, leading to cold track temperatures and varying levels of grip. Having only a small entry the BARC Yorkshire Centre were able to offer competitors a third practice run before lunch, which was well received by championship contenders trying to set their cars up for the timed runs.
In practice Trevor Willis was the only competitor to run in the 49's in the V8 powered OMS 25, but could not match this pace in his class runs. His timed runs qualified him second fastest for each run off behind Wallace Menzies and Scott Moran. In run off one he ran wide at the first corner kicking up dust, the rest of the run was rather untidy and could not match his qualifiying time leaving him in 3rd place. The second run off saw Trevor back on form setting a personal best time of 49.51 seconds and fastest time of day at that point. Only one more car had to run, Scott Moran. Scott dug deep in the rapidly cooling conditions and posted a time of 49.38 to take the run off win & FTD from Trevor.
Perhaps when the championship arrives at Gurston Down at the end of the month, temperatures will be more spring like and the sun may shine: we can only hope.
