Sparkling Performance from Willis at Diamond Jubilee Shelsley Weekend
Whilst the UK celebrated the Queen's Diamond Jubliee, OMS racing celebrated a dominant winning performance from Trevor Willis in the Avon Tyres MSA British Hillclimb Championship event at Shelsley Walsh hillclimb in Worcestershire. Following aero modifications to his V8 powered OMS 25 during the off season, Trevor has shown a new level of confidence in the car that translated this weekend into a scintillating drive in very challenging wet track conditions.
The only driver to drop into a 27 second run in the class, Trevor comfortably won Class L on a 27.95 from 2nd placed Roger Moran and 3rd Scott Moran. His class times qualified Trevor in the top spot for both of the Avon Tyres MSA British Hillclimb Championship Run Offs. With Esses approach speeds of 117 mph in wet conditions, he put in totally committed climbs to win each run off by 7/10ths to second placed Scott & Roger Moran. His performance not only won Trevor the Class & Run Offs but also Fastest Time of the Day on 27.89 seconds and TTC Midland Hillclimb Championship Man of the Meeting.
Joining Trevor in both of the Run Offs was fellow OMS 25 driver Neville Rollason in his Hayabusa 1600cc powered version. The Shropshire driver was on form all weekend in the difficult wet conditions, putting in a splendid class run that placed him 3rd overall in class, less than a second behind the dominant Lee Adams. In the Avon Tyres MSA British Hillclimb Championship he continued to improve his times and scored a championship point in each Run Off. Following the close of the meeting Nev could be seen grinning like a cat that had got the cream, this was 'simply the best weekend ever' he told those who congratulated him.
The Midland Automobile Club are to be congratulated on running the meeting so successfully in view of the conditions and for finishing the meeting ahead of schedule. The marshalls must also to be thanked for standing out all weekend in such miserable wet weather, many thanks to you all.
