New OMS 25 V8 debuts at Harewood

Jason Mourant has had a PowerTec V8 engine installed by OMS Racing into his OMS 25. He is running the same power unit as Trevor Willis's 2012 British Hillclimb Championship winning OMS 25. Following successful testing at Curborough along with Trevor in his OMS28 V8 which is now running on  methanol and SBD's Steve Broughton earlier in the week, Jason made the trip north to Harewood to try the car against the clock at the Spring National meeting.

Despite cold and windy conditions, good times were set by Harewood regulars Steve Owen and Richard Spedding, giving Jason a benchmark for comparison. Richard and Steve were evenly matched, with Richard finding a half second advantage to take the class win and FTD from Steve who finished 2nd FTD. Fellow Harewood regular John Chacksfield in his 2.0Ltr OMS CF04 took the 3rd FTD spot from Lynn Owen on 4th fastest time of day in the 1600cc OMS 28.

New OMS 28's nearing completion

The supercharged OMS 28 of Neville Rollason is nearly completed and will run on the dyno after Easter, before its first outing at Shelsley Walsh for the Midland Hill Climb Championship meeting on 4th May.

The sister car running in 1100cc format will also debut at Shelsley in the hands of Simon Andrews and Bernard Kevill.

Vazon Coast Sprint Guernsey

The season opener for Guernsey Motor Cycle and Car Club was on 5th April at Vazon. Justin Smith took the class win for racing cars up to 1600cc from Sarah Gaudion. Their OMS cars have been back to the workshop over the winter for upgrades that included carbon rear gearbox housings for both cars to reduce the weight of each car. Fellow OMS driver Alan Prevel was also out for the season opener in his 1000cc Auto Repair Centre OMS.

British Hillclimb Championship

The MSA British Hillclimb and Hillclimb Leaders Championships have their first meeting of the 2014 season on Saturday and Sunday 26/27th April 2014. The venue for this meeting is Prescott Hill Climb near Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.

Ben Lovell in OMS Sports Car for 2014

2013 Harewood Speed Hillclimb Champion Ben Lovell has bought the Les Procter OMS CFSC carbon chassis sports car, that Les has campaigned since he took delivery of the car from new in 2008. Ben's first drive was at the Harewood Spring National Meeting and he found it somewhat different to the Lotus Elise he drove to win the Harewood Championship last season. His best time was a 59.98 placing him second in class to former OMS driver Sarah Holdsworth in the Radical she shares with her father Dale Cordingley.
