Youngest Ever FTD Winner?

John Munro son of speed eventer Roy Munro, has amazed the sprint and hill climb fraternity with his debut performance in the family 1100cc OMS 2000M. Roy and John collected the car from OMS Racing on Easter Sunday following repairs to damage caused by a previous incident. They drove straight to Croft circuit for the SBD British Sprint Championship round on Easter Monday, where John comfortably took a class win. What makes this win so incredible is that the event was John's first ever in a race car of any kind and also that he is only 16 years old.

And to prove that the Croft class win was no fluke, this weekend at Kames John took Fastest Time of Day at Saturdays meeting and then again at Sundays Guyson Scottish Sprint Championship meeting. He beat his father Roy and also John MacKenzie; who has recently acquired the ex-Brehaut/Rollason/Adams OMS 2000M.

Roy sent the following report and photographs by Robert Smith:

Tain teenager John Munro has caused a sensation by becoming the youngest driver ever to score an outright victory on a Scottish speed event when he won the Ian Pinkerton Memorial Sprint organised by Scottish Sporting Car Club at Kames Motorsport Complex in Ayrshire on Saturday.  At the age of 16 years and five months he still has to wait six months before he can apply for a provisional driving licence yet in only his second motorsport competition he beat an experienced field which included competitors from as far away as the English Midlands. His father Roy was runner-up in the same car, an 1100cc OMS 2000M single seater racing car.

To prove this was no fluke performance he repeated this success by setting Fastest Time of the Day at the same venue the following day when the Machars Car Club ran their round of the Guyson Scottish Sprint Championship.  In a dramatic finish to the event, John was trailing John Mackenzie from Laurencekirk and John’s dad Roy as John pulled a stunner of a run to secure his weekend double. Roy finished third overall.

Congratulations John on your wins.
