April News
With the 2016 season well underway, here is a round up of some meetings so far this month.
Harewood Hillclimb 10th April
2015 Harewood Speed Hillclimb FTD Champion John Chacksfield drove his OMS 28 1300s in earnest for
the first time this year, following a disappointing practice day in March. Despite the dry but
cool conditions times were pretty good and John's best of the day 55.79 placed him fifth FTD
behind Richard Spedding, Wallace Menzies, Will Hall and Ed Hollier.
Steve and Lynn Owen will be campaigning the OMS 28 BMW S1000RR in 2016, instead of their more
familiar 1600cc OMS 28. Following much work over the winter the car ran faultlessly and even
though they ran on tyres that had seen better days, Steve took the class win. Second place went
to Will Kerr in his OMS CF09, who was delighted to finish just 8/10ths adrift of Steve, whilst
Lynn took fifth in class.
Simon Ambler was competing at his first Harewood event in the ex- Paul Martin 1300cc OMS 2000M
he acquired over the winter. His best time 60.80 seconds placed him fourth in class 2/10ths
behind regular national competitor Tina Hawkes in the 1600cc racing car class.

Gurston Down Hillclimb 16th and 17th April
At the season opener there were seven OMS drivers at Saturday's meeting. Peter Hammock is no
longer running in the B licence class, he now runs with racing cars up to 1600cc having
successfully upgraded his licence last season. Pete was trying out the new carbon fibre bodywork
and aerofoils which he has fitted to his OMS CF04 over the winter months. Also running in the
same class was Ian Tucker with his OMS CF07, Neal Coles in a CF04 and joining them was Mark
Schlankler with his recently acquired OMS 2000M.
In the 1100cc racing car class Alan Joy and Murray Wakeham shook down their OMS CF1100 following
winter work to resolve the problems they encountered last season. Stephen Loadsman in his
OMS R/A took second in class ahead of Alan and Murray.

Loton Park Hillclimb 16th and 17th April
A few OMS drivers took the opportunity to run their cars at the Hagley and District LCC season
opener at Loton Park.
Hagley members Simon Andrews and Bernie Kevill were testing their 1000cc OMS 28 following winter
development work. Simon took a class win on the Sunday with a 51.26s climb, Bernie finished third
in class on both days. Joining them in the 1100cc racing car class this season is John Stockley.
Having previously run his OMS 2000M with a 1300cc Hayabusa, John had Steve Owen install a 1000cc
Suzuki GSXR K8, moving him into the smaller capacity racing car class for 2016. John's best time
on Saturday was 53.64s.
New OMS owners Trish and Terry Davis were competing in their first event with the ex- Ian Fidoe
OMS CF08: the car runs a 2.0l TKD YV8 engine designed and built by Terry. They seem to have
settled into the car very well with Terry taking second in class at Saturday's meeting with his
best run time of 52.09 s. Trish finished the day on 55.43s to take fifth in class.
Trevor Willis competed on the Saturday with his OMS 28 V8. Trevor has worked on the car over the
winter to reduce the overall weight and improve aerodynamics, and this meeting was very much a
test session. He took a comfortable class win on a best run time of 47.75s from class competitors
Jason Mourant and Will Hall, as well as setting fastest time of day. Trevor did not run on the Sunday as he joined fellow OMS drivers Gary Hill, Lynn and Steve Owen at Prescott Hillclimb for the annual Prescott Bike Festival; a charity event where riders run the hill on a variety of two wheel machines to raise money for the Blood Bikes volunteer service.

Croft Hillclimb 16th April
The first round of the Irish ANICC Regional Hillclimb Championship was held at Croft on Saturday 16th April. OMS driver Chris Houston took a great class win and FTD with his best time 34.50s in the ex-Tim Wilson 1400cc OMS CF04.
Having had the Penske shockers rebuilt and set up on the dyno by Steve Owen over the winter months, Chris said “The car was great it handles like it was on rails”.
