July Harewood Championship Hillclimb
For those drivers who chose not to compete at Barbon Manor on Saturday 3rd July, there was a full weekend of hillclimbing at Harewood Hillclimb near Leeds.
Saturday's 'July Harewood Championship Hillclimb' was a round of the 2016 BARC Yorkshire Centre Harewood Speed Hillclimb Championship. The meeting had similar weather conditions to those experienced over the Pennines at Barbon, resulting in changing track conditions from dry to wet and then back to dry.
Ben Lovell led the sports libre class all day in his OMS SC4CF and took the class win, with a best time of 57.14 seconds.
Racing cars up to 1100cc once again attracted a strong entry, with 14 drivers challenging for the top spot. Steve Owen seemed to have the upper hand, leading the class through practice and first timed runs with his OMS 28 BMW. On the final timed run Richard Summers sneaked in front of Steve by one hundredth of a second to snatch the class win and third overall fastest time of day.
Fellow OMS 28 driver Simon Andrews found the changing conditions a challenge, but managed to pull his best time out of the bag 57.00s on his final climb of the day, to take third in class behind Richard and Steve. Harry Pick in the Suzuki K8 powered OMS 2000M took fifth in class with his best time 57.49 seconds.
Trisha and Terry Davis suffered from gearbox problems during morning practice, but they were resolved and the OMS CF09 finished third in class with Terry's 57.67s climb.
