The Way it Is
There is on-going concern regarding ROPS (Roll Over Protection Structure) requirements for 2017. We have worked with the MSA and MIRA to get OMS roll hoops approved, and all standard models have now been certified by the MSA.
It is very likely that scrutineers will ask to see certification of ROPS. Individual roll hoops have to be identified by a manufacturers label, and we have decided to use a tamper-evident self-adhesive label for this. We can supply ROPS “packs”, including a certificate and label, as below:
OMS 28: Fully approved with no modifications required. ROPS packs are now available to purchase (£96.00 inc. vat at 20%) from OMS Racing.
OMS 25: Fully approved with no modifications required. ROPS packs are now available to purchase (£96.00 inc. vat at 20%) from OMS Racing.
OMS Hornet: Fully approved with no modifications required. ROPS packs are now available to purchase (£96.00 inc. vat at 20%) from OMS Racing.
OMS CF04 onwards: Fully approved with no modifications required. ROPS packs are now available to purchase (£96.00 inc. vat at 20%) from OMS Racing.
OMS 2000M: MIRA simulation passed with a minor change to the structure, and approved by the MSA.
Working with MIRA we have engineered a minor upgrade which involves welding a gusset between the main hoop and stay.
OMS 2000M Roll Hoop
This is a straightforward upgrade; we have the gussets available for purchase. We can fit these at a total cost (including ROPS pack) of £156.00 inc. vat at 20%. Alternatively, we have made arrangements with Force Racing to have them fitted; or we can supply gussets for you to have them fitted by a competent welder. In the latter cases the cost for parts and ROPS packs only, will be £103.20 inc. vat at 20%. Please note the gussets must be fitted for the certificate to be valid.
OMS PR: MIRA simulation passed and approved by the MSA.
The approval is for the standard roll hoop with a single 11/4" OD rear stay. It is worth checking which stay you have, as two diameters were used during the time of manufacture.
If your rear stay is 11/4" OD and the roll hoop is standard, you only require a ROPS pack, the cost of which is £96.00 inc. vat at 20% from OMS Racing.
If your car has the smaller diameter 1 inch tube rear stay, then return the stay intact by post and we will send you the necessary 11/4" OD rear stay. (Do not cut the stay up as we need it whole to place on the jig prior to making a replacement). This should be a straightforward upgrade; we will shortly have the rear stays available for purchase. The cost for an exchange rear stay and ROPS pack is £165.00 inc. vat at 20% from OMS Racing.
Please note: the rear stay must be either the original 11/4" OD stay, or a replacement 11/4" OD stay supplied by OMS Racing, for the certificate to be valid.
All future OMS cars will be supplied with full MSA ROPS certification as standard.
If your roll hoop has been altered from the original factory specification then the certification will not be valid; please contact us to discuss.
As you can imagine this is creating a high workload.
